Month by month: the lowest fares we saw

October 2026 had a lowest fare of US$161, seen on 18 October with VivaAerobus and one stop. November 2026 was nearly the same at US$160 on 10 November with Volaris and one stop.

December 2026 jumped to US$211, seen on 8 December with Volaris and one stop. That is the highest monthly low in the data. Holiday travel demand often pushes prices up, but we cannot say why this specific fare was higher.

January 2027 brought the lowest fare we saw at US$146 on 25 January with Volaris and one stop. February 2027 rose again to US$197 on 21 February, also with Volaris and one stop.

The pattern suggests late January may offer lower prices than December or February. But with only five months of data, treat this as a snapshot rather than a rule.

Which airlines appear on this route

Three airlines appeared in the fares we reviewed: Volaris, VivaAerobus and Frontier. Volaris had the lowest starting price at US$146. VivaAerobus started at US$161 and Frontier at US$221.

None of these airlines showed a direct flight in our data. Every fare we saw included one stop. If you prefer a direct flight, you may need to check other dates or airlines not captured here.

Volaris and VivaAerobus are Mexican low-cost carriers. Frontier is a US low-cost carrier. Their prices often include fewer extras, so check baggage and seat fees before you book.

Direct or with a stop: what to expect

In the fares we reviewed, no direct flights from Los Angeles to Cancun appeared. All 19 fares involved one stop. That means your journey will take longer than a non-stop flight would.

A stop can add time to your journey, depending on the connection. If you are travelling with children or on a tight schedule, factor that in. Some travellers prefer a stop to save money, but the fare difference may be small.

Before you book, check the total travel time and the layover airport. A very short connection can be stressful. A very long one may not be worth the saving.

How to choose your dates using this data

The lowest fare we saw was on a Monday, 25 January 2027. Tuesdays and Wednesdays often have lower demand, but our data is too limited to confirm that for this route.

If your dates are flexible, search a few days either side of your ideal departure. A shift of one or two days can change the price. Use the monthly lows as a starting point.

Remember that the fare you see today may be gone tomorrow. Airlines change prices often. If you find a price you are comfortable with, book it rather than waiting for a lower one that may not come.

Using price alerts and comparing before you book

Set a price alert on FindMyFlight to get an email when the fare drops. Alerts are by email only and you can unsubscribe with one click. There are no SMS messages.

Compare prices across different airlines and dates before you book. FindMyFlight lists results by price, low to high, and never adds anything to a fare. You book and pay the airline or partner directly.

Look before you book. A few minutes of comparison can save you a meaningful amount. Check the total cost including bags and seat selection, not just the base fare.

Common mistakes to avoid

One mistake is booking the first fare you see without checking nearby dates. The difference between two consecutive days can be significant. Always look at a small range.

Another is ignoring the stop. A one-stop flight may arrive much later than you expect. Check the layover time and airport before you pay.

Finally, do not assume the lowest fare includes everything. Baggage, seat selection and other extras can add up. Compare the total price, not just the headline number.

  • Check a few dates around your ideal departure
  • Look at total travel time, not just price
  • Set a price alert and compare before booking
